Demo man The dirty, rough-necked demo man packs more explosive firepower than any other class. With the ability to carry up to four highly dangerous MIRV grenades (the most explosive grenade in Team Fortress Classic), the demo man can be an effective tool in both offensive and defensive situations, and his two grenade launchers aren't exactly measly weapons.

Engineer The engineer is the unsung hero of Team Fortress Classic. The primary strength of the engineer is his trusty sentry gun. Capable of being built on any flat surface, placing the sentry gun can become very deadly if placed right. As long as there's a sentry gone at the flag, a scout will not snag the flag unless the scout himself destroys the sentry

Heavy Weapons Guy He may be incredibly slow, but the heavy weapons guy is able to deal out punishing damage with sustained fire from his assault cannon. What's more, the heavy weapons guy has more armor than any other class, letting him withstand the blast of any grenade at least once. The cannon can kill a scout in about half a second and can kill other classes almost as easily.

Medic As his name suggests, the medic's real purpose is to be the healer of the group. His handy mobile med kit can quickly heal friendly players as well as escalate their health over the maximum amount (though their accelerated health will begin falling over time). Further, the medic can heal injuries, such as leg injuries from caltrops, and sniper shots as well as curing the enemy medic's virus.
Scout The Scout is the lightest, but also the weakest TFC class. He has incredible speed and is easily the fastest class in TFC (the medic comes in second, and he can't come close to matching the sheer speed of the Scout). Because of this great speed, he can only travel light, with overall the weakest combination of weapons in the game. The Scout also suffers from lack of armor and health. He is only allowed to have 90 health and 50 yellow armor.

Sniper If you feel your skills are better suited for attacking from a distance, and you don't have the intense hand-eye coordination required for toe-to-toe confrontations, the Sniper might be the choice for you. More suited to defensive use than offensive base strikes, the snipers usually position themselves on the battlements and snipe enemies coming across the bridge or enemy snipers across the way.
Soldier The soldier is perhaps the most balanced class in Team Fortress Classic, wielding a powerful rocket launcher and nail grenade as his primary weapons. Not too heavy on his feet, the soldier can play both sides of the fence in terms of offence and defensive, depending on the current needs of your Team Fortress Classic squad.

Spy As a Spy, you need to act like the enemy. The spy can change his appearance to look like a member of the enemy team, of any class. This makes him horribly important in flag games. Once you gain the trust of the enemy team, you can get away with murder. But if an enemy spy or scout touches you while disguised or you steal the enemy flag, you will lose your disguise.
Pyro Perhaps the most rounded class in terms of offensive and defensive functions, the pyro excels at both but isn't really the optimum class for either task. The Pyro's flamethrower spews out really big sprites that block your view and make it hard to see what you're shooting. Another feature of the Pyro is that he has a special fire-retardant armor that will never catch on fire.
